FREE ENTRY Marco de Ana, creator of this performance piece, which will premiere on September 26 as part of the Festes de la Mercè at Ciutadella Park, invites the public to a gathering at Club Del Disco Barcelona. There, he will share reflections on the importance of artistic and collective expression in the face of social isolation in today’s society. The discussion will move through conversations, music and dance, exploring the role of the semantic phrases included in the choreography. These function as rhythmic carriers of messages while also serving as the basis for the dance movements themselves. Poder de Protesta is a choreographic exercise that, through flamenco, seeks to add the dancing body to protest, while bringing freedom and grace to the act of protesting. The piece has no specific message and does not refer to any particular political event. Rather, it is largely based on short phrases borrowed from the manifesto A lo borde by the group Smash, which connects sociopolitical analysis with the absurd. The performance also includes a text by Pedro G. Romero, created specifically for this performance at La Mercè, offering an extensive reflection on artistic protest both within and beyond flamenco. It will be a gathering based on verbal and physical dialogue between those present, as well as a collective rhythmic experience that will convey the Poder de Protesta. Marco de Ana In addition to voices and percussion, the event will feature Javier Galiana, pianist, composer and multidisciplinary musician. He studied with Antonio Reguera and at ESMUC, where he became its first graduate in jazz piano. His career has been shaped by jazz, flamenco, popular music and improvisation. He has lived and worked in cities such as Rio de Janeiro, Lisbon and New York, and has collaborated with artists including Manu Chao and Silvia Pérez Cruz, as well as being part of projects such as La Canalla, Tumbando a Monk and Trío Garum. He has also composed music for theatre, receiving the Lorca Award for Musical Composition and a Max Award nomination.
