ANDRÉS IAIES, HORACIO FUMERO Y MILAGROS CALIVA: After more than fifteen years, Tango Reflections Trio is back in motion. Pianist Adrián Iaies and legendary double bassist Horacio Fumero are reviving one of the most distinctive projects to emerge from the meeting point between tango and jazz. They are now joined by Milagros Caliva, one of the young bandoneon players who has attracted the most attention on Argentina’s new music scene. W H E N T A N G O A N D J A Z Z M E E T The trio revisits the repertoire of the great tango composers —Troilo, Cobián, De Caro, Laurenz— through the freedom and language of jazz improvisation. Iaies approaches this music with the same intensity with which he engages with the legacy of Bill Evans, Thelonious Monk, and Duke Ellington. The result is deep, lyrical, and open music, where the spirit of tango meets the energy of jazz. Today, with this new lineup, Tango Reflections Trio opens a new chapter: a meeting between generations that brings back to the stage a music in which tango and jazz engage in dialogue with complete freedom.
